Last Updated: 2023-07-07
Author(s): Anzengruber F., Navarini A.
ICD11: -
Cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by L. mexicana and brasiliensis.
Total 10% of all leishmaniasis. Occurrence in USA (Texas) and South America (Mexico, Brazil, Peru). Due to deforestation, sand flies now adapt in Brazil, which has led to an increase in incidence.
Insect bite leads to transmission. The sandfly Lutzomyia transmits Leishmania (about 10% of the 350 species of Lutzomyia can do so). This is done by promastigotes.
