Trichomonad urethritis.
Sexually transmitted disease. The pathogen Trichomonas vaginalis triggers urethritis or colpitis.
Women are more often affected and have more symptoms than men. 20% of women between the ages of 16 and 35 have an infection at least once.
Trichomonas vaginalis prefers keratinising mucosal surfaces, such as the urethra. Rarely, the bladder and ureters are affected.
15-20% of all infected women show symptoms. Characteristic are whitish-yellowish discharge, dysuria and discomfort during sexual intercourse.
