About DermaCompass

Whether in private practice or in the hospital, dermatology is becoming increasingly mobile. We are constantly supported by smartphones and desktop computers. Our goal is to provide an independent academic resource that can be used seamlessly across both platforms.

DermaCompass quickly adapts to the user’s needs, making it a learning tool. Educational texts can be freely annotated with highlights and comments and are available in this form at any time on desktop, smartphone, or tablet. DermaCompass is available on iOS, Android, and via web browser.

Your Practice Companion

The first step in any dermatological consultation is taking the medical history, performing an examination, and developing a differential diagnosis. Even as a clinical beginner, one typically has an initial suspected diagnosis, from which a differential diagnosis is then developed. Although lists of differential diagnoses can be found in reference works, they are often not applicable to the specific clinical situation and therefore usually of limited help.

The first advantage of DermaCompass is its dynamic suggestions of differential diagnoses. From these, a shortlist is generated within seconds that is relevant to the current patient. Even inexperienced dermatologists can therefore consider a complete differential diagnosis and avoid missing any important condition.

In the second step, the full potential of the application unfolds. The selected differential diagnosis is further investigated, and a specific clinical work-up plan is proposed, including laboratory tests, microbiological, mycological and viral diagnostics, biopsies, genetic testing, and instrumental examinations.

In future versions, we also plan to provide diagnosis-specific guidance to help prevent common mistakes, as well as supportive advice—approximately equivalent to the input of a supervising senior physician.
