Pyoderma is an infection of the skin and skin appendages. Staphylococci and streptococci act as triggers. Pyoderma occurs worldwide and has multiple subtypes. Depending on the duration of the infection, a distinction is made between acute and chronic pyoderma. The hair follicles can be affected (ostiofolliculitis, folliculitis decalvans, boils, carbuncles) or left out (small- and large-bubble impetigo contagiosa, panaritis, phlegmon and perianal streptococcal dermatitis). Infestation of the sweat glands occurs in infant periporitis and hidradenitis suppurativa.
